The castle as it is today dates back to 1533 when the Orsini family rebuilt the walls and the baronial palace. The windows and the doors are typically 5th century with curved arches while the portico and the loggia presumably date back to the 17th century. The building which was built on the remains of the ancient caste walls exploited and enlarged the space originally destined for one of the ancient towers of the Medieval Guard.

When the Ruspoli family arrived, the palace underwent even more changes both the inside and outside. In 1960 Cardinal Acciupidi authorised the building of a pathway which leads to the church Santa Maria Maggiore which became the real palace chapel. palatina.
